The SOCAN Group (www.socan.ca) is an important part of the music industry ecosystem. SOCAN itself is an administrator of the world’s repertoire for public performance rights for music.
Anytime music is performed or delivered publicly, ranging from television to radio to concerts to streaming services to offices and restaurants, a SOCAN license allows a business to use the music ethically and legally.
The SOCAN Group also includes subsidiaries MediaNet and Audiam.
MediaNet is a music fulfillment company providing sound recordings to streaming services. MediaNet is based in Seattle and has been in operation since 2000 (acquired by the SOCAN Group in 2016).
Audiam is a digital music reproduction rights agency. Audiam is based in New York City and has been in operation since 2013 (acquired by the SOCAN Group in 2016).
SOCAN’s head office is in Toronto with branches in Montreal, Vancouver, and Los Angeles.
Our Target Markets
We target the music and entertainment sector on a global basis. Specifically, SOCAN targets any business using music in any way, ranging from broadcast to music on hold. We also target composers, writers, music publishers, and music users in Canada.
MediaNet supplies content to streaming services globally, and Audiam targets music publishers and monetizes their rights ex-Canada, particularly in streaming services and video platforms such as YouTube and Daily Motion.
