Last week we talked about our recent adventure to Sudbury’s SNOLab (Sudbury Neutrino Observation Laboratory), a lab set deep in a mine, where scientists are dealing with the question of all questions: what is dark matter?
As mentioned last week, this lab is proof positive that business innovation can lead to major developments – whether within your own organization or on a global scientific scale.
This week we thought we’d give you another’s perspective on our great northern adventure!
Check out the article on Marguerite Orane’s blog, titled “Field trip – Corporate Style!,” here: http://margueriteorane.com/vol33/
In it, Marguerite explains the purpose of the trip: “Why did we go? Why not? We went because we were curious. We were interested to learn something new and unrelated to our businesses. Was it a “team building activity”? Not meant to be, but I do feel so much closer to the lovely people in this group. I now can’t wait until we meet again to feel the difference in our group dynamics! So here’s my suggestion – take your team on a field trip. It’s not a teambuilding activity, not related to work, no debrief after, no lessons learned, no action plan generated. Just enjoy every moment of learning for learning’s sake, with people who you see every day, but who you will come to know differently.”
This got us thinking about how changes within organizations (or business innovation itself), even in a minor way, can lead to major changes – and how something as simple as a team field trip can get those changes started!
