How to Innovate

Continuous Change Management: Get Back to the Drawing Board

Last year you grabbed the bull by the horns and made some much needed changes to your business model. Right now, your product is selling well, your people are all aligned and happy, your bank is happy and most of all, you should be happy too. Time to sit back and enjoy the ride, right? Wrong. Sorry, but it is time to move on and get back to the drawing board. Innovation doesn’t happen on its own; continuous change management is crucial for competition.

What?!? Things are going great – but we’re asking you to keep changing? But that doesn’t make sense. Well, think about it this way: once you’ve established the position of a product in the marketplace, your competitors are already trying to commoditize the pricing and there simply is no getting away from this fact; your products will become obsolete, it’s simply a matter of time.

Remaining stagnant, even after significant change, will quickly leave you open for an attack. With competition fierce, no matter the industry, giving your rivals time to improve on your own innovation means that your own idea will quickly become someone else’s avenue for change.

You should probably start thinking about a new direction or, at the very least, improvements to your existing product line. The process of innovation is a never ending loop and successful entrepreneurs understand how to get on to that loop and stay there.

When it comes to continuous change management, the best way to tackle to competition is to allow ideas to continually flourish, and to take those ideas and run with them. Sure, some of them won’t yield the results you are looking for, and careful consideration is required, but some may just be exactly what you need.

For advice on how to constantly keep things current, turn to like-minded individuals who are dealing with the same issues that you face on a daily basis. An organization of executives focused on keeping innovative business ideas flowing is a great place to network and feed ideas.

Innovators Alliance is just such an organization. We are committed to helping you continue to achieve greatness. For more about how to maintain a hold on continuous change management within your organization, give us a call today at 905-332-0340 or check us out online at www.innovators.org.
