Canada’s Climate Change Report: Canada Releases National Issues Report on Climate Change Adaptation

Natural Resources Canada has released a new climate change report for Canada. Called Canada in a Changing Climate: National Issues Report, the in-depth document explores how climate change is impacting the Canadian environment, economy and many aspects of citizens’ lives.

It delves deeply into local climate change impacts and provides examples of adaptation efforts underway to address them. The report is meant to provide crucial and much-needed guidance to inform decision-making as the country seeks to develop Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy.

“The National Issues Report is a stark reminder that Canadians are already feeling the effects of climate change through more extreme weather events like wildfires, floods and droughts. The cost of damages from these events is also rising, which is why the Government of Canada is currently developing a National Adaptation Strategy, guided and informed by the best available science. The Strategy is an important part of our plan to make communities cleaner, safer and more resilient for future generations,” said the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

The report showcases how Canadian communities are reaping the impacts of climate change on their infrastructure, health, culture and economies. These effects are a real threat to Canada’s ecosystems and the vital services they provide. The report emphasizes that to avoid any worsening of these impacts, urgent action is needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the country’s resilience to climate change.
